Mark retired as MYA’s Senior Director of Fresh and Perishable at the end of 2024, leaving behind a remarkable legacy and a team poised for continued success.
Mark joined MYA in 2020 after selling his company, Market Merchandisers Inc., to MYA. With over four decades of experience in the fresh and perishable food industry, he brought a wealth of knowledge and an unparalleled work ethic to our organization. During his time at MYA, Mark focused on building and strengthening our Fresh and Perishable team. His vision and dedication laid the foundation for a seamless transition of leadership, ensuring the continued growth and success of this critical division. Under his guidance, Stephen Larson now serves as Senior Director of Fresh and Perishable, and Steven Baldassaro has stepped into the role of Director of Fresh and Perishable. These leaders, mentored by Mark, are well-prepared to carry forward the high standards and innovative strategies he implemented.
Mark’s career is a testament to his passion for the food industry and his drive for excellence. His journey began at just 15 years old, working in retail produce for Dillons Food Stores until graduating from Kansas State University. From there, he launched into an extraordinary professional trajectory that spanned decades. Right out of college, Mark began working for Fleming Foods as a produce buyer, dedicating 10 years to the company and eventually rising to the role of Produce Director in Springfield, Missouri, and El Paso, Texas. Later, he joined TOPCO, where he led the Produce Buying Office in Lakeland, Florida, refining his expertise in produce sourcing and distribution. He also served as Produce Director at AWG for three years before taking the entrepreneurial leap to start his own company.
In 1997, Mark established Market Merchandisers Inc. with a single line of fresh herbs. Over 23 years, he grew the business into a powerhouse with four offices, covering retail stores in 10 states. His team of 14 employees managed over $70 million in annual sales. When Mark brought Market Merchandisers under the MYA umbrella in 2020, he infused our organization with his entrepreneurial spirit, industry expertise, and a commitment to excellence. His efforts significantly expanded MYA’s presence and capabilities in the fresh and perishable space.
Mark’s influence extends far beyond MYA. In January of 2025, just months after his retirement, Mark was honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award by Spice World, who recognized him for his ongoing support of the brand and his significant contributions to the industry. This prestigious accolade is a fitting tribute to a career marked by passion, dedication, and an enduring impact on the industry.
As MYA continues to grow and thrive, we do so with deep gratitude for Mark Croft’s vision, leadership, and commitment.
